Join the NAAC for our Febraury Online Meet Up with Jenny Conlee. We will be discussing her various musical projects past and present including her work with the indie rock group The Decemberists as well as her most recent project Black Prairie.

Jenny Conlee // Portland, OR

Jenny is a pianist, organist, and accordionist who performs and records with many Portland bands including The Decemberists, Black Prairie, Casey Neill and the Norway Rats, The Minus 5, Jerry Joseph and the Jackmormons, Calobo, Little Sue, and Ashleigh Flynn. As well as performing, Conlee has worked as a composer for commercials, short films (including “The Kid” by Jeff Winograd), and theater (Black Prairie composed the music for Oregon Children’s Theater’s production of “A Storm in the Barn”).

The instrumental album “French Kayaking Music” is Jenny and her husband Steve Drizos’ first full-length release of their own music. The music was written for and inspired by the documentary “Voyagers Without Trace” directed by Ian McCluskey and produced by NW Documentary.

Jenny also performs with the group Paper Bellows which is an accordion quartet comprised of: Courtney Von Drehle (3 Leg Torso), Jetty Swart (internationally known accordionist/singer known under the name Jet Black Pearl), Mike Danner (Trashcan Joe, Saloon Ensemble), and Jenny Conlee (The Decemberists, Black Prairie).

Paper Bellows celebrates the many styles of accordion music. Their repertoire includes Argentinian, Turkish and French  music, along with original compositions and covers of popular songs.  The full sound of 4 accordions is also sometimes augmented by Jetty Swart and Mike Danner’s vocals.
